VIN decoder: check a car from a US auction

Enter the VIN and we will show the car's factory data, its auction history and what we check before bidding.

Example: 5UX23EM0XR9W07201

What is a VIN and where do I find it?

The VIN is the vehicle identification number assigned at the factory: 17 characters, never the letters I, O or Q. You will find it on the plate under the windscreen on the driver's side, on the driver's door pillar, in the registration document and in the auction listing.

What does a VIN tell me?

Factory data: model year, make, model, trim, engine, drivetrain, body, plant and the safety equipment recorded by the manufacturer. For the model and year we also show EPA fuel economy, NHTSA ratings and complaints, and recalls.

What does a VIN not tell me?

The condition of this specific car: mileage, damage, repairs, number of owners or whether it went through an insurance auction. We check that separately before bidding: history reports, photos, damage description and the title.
